Introduction:

e purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of social media on young people's mental health. We conducted a survey among 1000 students aged between 15 and 24 in a university in Beijing, China. The results showed that excessive use of social media was associated with negative effects on mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. In addition, we found that students who used social media for educational purposes had better mental health outcomes than those who used it for entertainment or socializing purposes.
